2FA (2 Factor Authentication)
2FA or 2 Factor Authentication is also known as Multi-Factor Authentication and it is best described as an added layer of security for your passwords and other information online. It involves having to verify your log in with not just your password, but another form of authentication such as a verification code via text message.
Types of 2FA
SMS
When entering your password, you will receive a unique code via SMS to verify your identity and log in successfully.
Fingerprint
When entering your password, you will need to scan your fingerprint on your chosen device to verify your identity and log in successfully.
Face Recognition
When entering your password, you will need to scan your face using your device's camera to verify your identity and log in successfully.
What are the benefits of 2FA?
2FA and Healthcare
Technology has transformed healthcare, but this digital innovation also has one notable downside: cyber threats. (Bunn 2023).
2 Factor Authentication adds an extra layer of security, with users needing an extra verification and not just the simple log-in and password. If cyber criminals can’t log on, then they can’t gain access to systems, and they can't steal data.
This puts healthcare users at ease that their confidential health data is not easily accessible and gives them peace of mind that their data is not getting into the wrong hands.
