Mental Health's impact on Rehabilitation

Mental Health plays a vital role in a patient’s road to rehabilitation, affecting their ability to recover from their illness. It can provide a blockade to recovery if it is ignored and not prioritized.

What exactly is mental health though?

What is Mental Health?

Mental health is defined as “our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices.” (CDC, 2023).

How good or bad our mental health is therefore determines and affects how we are feeling on a daily basis.

How does it affect Rehabilitation?

When someone has a traumatic event or illness that leads to them needing rehabilitation, this not surprisingly affects their mental health. "All of these factors can cause great distress to a person (and their family), which can also delay or impact the success of physical rehabilitation.” (Johnson, 2022).

How can we help?

Our aim is to give patients this motivation to rehabilitate and take part in their rehabilitation exercises by the development of our fun rehabilitation games. This is so that they can have fun and rehabilitate at the same time!

Patients can also do this independently depending on ability which puts less of a strain on family, carers and healthcare professionals.

Our games have a cognitive element to them also, designed to allow the patients brain to keep active and therefore limit the possibility of feeling down and having poor mental health. Check out more info in our Resynk Blog!
